Seguindo uma ideia do Danilo Dassi estou abrindo este topico de bate-papo em ingles. A ideia eh dar um espaco para as pessoas se animarem a praticar seu ingles escrito aqui. Nao tenha vergonha de escrever, a pratica vai te trazer melhoras, e ter q pensar em como fazer ja eh um belo de um treino. Nao se preocupe em escrever perfeitamente pois a perfeicao vem com a pratica, muuuuita pratica e muito estudo, entao maos a obra e aproveite a oportunidade. De agora em diante esquecam o portugues.

I'll get started then to encourage others to follow. For those who are not used to writing in English bear in mind that at first it's quite difficult to start, you get insecure, shy and afraid of making mistakes, but as you practice you will eventually get the hang of it and it will flow more and more naturally. But it doesn't mean you should be careless! Although no one will be checking on you do your best, check the spelling of the words you don't know and check the grammar rules you have already studied but happen to have forgotten. Putting effort into making things right is the best way to speed up your learning.

Nice topic. I'd like to learn about some expressions used in coloquial English.

Like "right on the money", that means that you match the question, for example ("na mosca" in Portuguese). I don't wanna know about translation, but about the meaning. Do you know any other to share?

yup, i do dude, try this website www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/index.html - it's got shit loads of phrases in alphabetical order. Also try googling 'expressions in English' or something like that and see what you get. Have fun.

Hello there,

I have been studying english a lot in the last months. My trip to Europe is coming soon, it will be on march 6th. I am sure that I and my wife will enjoy every single day during the trip and we are will so happy! I have a lot of thanks, because you have helped us with many questions and doubts!

I read the topic, posted by xaliba, where he told about learning english, and I follow his steps every day, and now I am feel more confident to speak english, to write it, and to communicate with people in Europe. Ok, I have a long way to go, but I have made a lot of progress and I believe in me, I will improve much more! I still need to come up with a way talk with native speakers, but perhaps on this trip I will meet someone who wants to talk to me by skype. Who knows, perhaps I will go to UK someday, to do an english course or to do an exam and to get a certificate which will be important to get a good job and a good salary, like xaliba!

On november, I am building a trip to Barcelos-AM, I will be there for 9 days, I want to know the Amazônia, I want to ride through the rivers, I want to fish tucunaré, I want feel the emotion and the sounds of the forest, I want to touch and to breath that air! The Amazônia is very important, because it has a great original wildlife, and we must to care and to preserve its singular beautiful!

Did you say the Vidal commited a little mistakes in his text, right? I don't know about the others but I want, if you desire, that you tell me what were my errors. In this way I'll learn with my mystakes.

Hi man, i appreciate your desire to learn more and more, but i don't want this topic to become an English class space but rather a practicing English space. I can every now and again correct things but this is a slippery slope cos i don't want people to have expectations about me correcting their texts.

One hint i can give you is: the best grammar book i've seen so far is the English Grammar in Use - Oxford press (the blue one). Start systematically doing the exercises and you'll see that things will start falling into place and your understanding of the language will improve dramatically. Things will slowly stop being instinctive and start getting properly known. Remember, grammar is not boring, it's the tool which will enable you to use the language properly, it's not an end in itself as many people think but a means through which you'll reach your goals. Studying grammar is the way forward!!

xaliba, grammar sucks man! It's important I know, but the spoken English is much better than grammar. It's like our life, first of all we listen to the words, after we begin speaking and at least we learn writting and reading and learn the fucking grammar.

It's not our case, I KNOW! Just to put fire in this conversation about grammar, that I'm against at this point of learning ::lol4::

well bro, i totally disagree. You only know how to write and speak properly cos you went to school and learnt GRAMMAR there. If you want to speak 'nois vai nois vorta' then yeah, no grammar is necessary, but otherwise, if you want to master it and do it well... think again. I say that by experience, after i started studying grammar there was an amazing boost in my english, today my english is way better than the average person cos, among other things, i did it and studied like hell. And also you're in brazil, not in an english speaking country. Now it's up to you. ::otemo::

If you think it's just something you have to do cos someone else told you to it does suck, if you think it's one of the things which will set you free - along with speaking, listening, and writing - you will be glad for every second spent in front of this book.

I igree with both... Grammar is sucks, but necessary.
I have more difficulty to speak and write, because "I need think" in English. So I'm trying this, "think" daily things what I do in English.
